Total Corners in a Match: How Often Each Number From 0 to 20 Comes Up
I mapped how often every corner total from a blank sheet up to 20+ appears, then turned each frequency into a fair price you can hold a bookmaker's offer against.

- 9Most common total corners in a match
- 11.9%Matches with exactly 9 corners
- 53.3%Matches with 8 to 12 corners
- 50.1%Matches with an odd total
Exact-total corner markets look like lottery tickets, and most bettors treat them that way. I wanted to know how often each number actually lands across 67,047 matches in 21 European divisions, and what a fair price for each one looks like. This is the base layer under everything on my free corner bet tips page, so I wanted it pinned down properly.
The headline answer: 9 corners is the most common total, landing in 11.9% of matches, with 10 and 8 close behind. The median sits at 10, and 53.3% of games finish between 8 and 12. Odd and even are close to a coin flip, which tells you plenty about where the value isn't.
Q1Which exact corner total turns up most often in a match?
The line chart shows the share of matches finishing on each exact total, with top flights and lower divisions plotted separately. Both curves peak in the same place and fall away at almost the same rate. That overlap is the first thing I look for, because it means one shape describes most of the leagues I cover.
The peak is at 9, with 10 corners at 11.5% and 8 corners at 11.0% either side of it. Exactly 10 came up in 11.5% of top-flight matches and 11.5% of lower-division matches, which is as tidy a match as you'll find in this data.

| Top flights | Lower divisions | |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | 0.0% | 0.0% |
| 1 | 0.1% | 0.1% |
| 2 | 0.4% | 0.4% |
| 3 | 1.3% | 1.2% |
| 4 | 2.7% | 2.6% |
| 5 | 4.7% | 4.3% |
| 6 | 7.1% | 7.0% |
| 7 | 9.6% | 9.3% |
| 8 | 10.8% | 11.1% |
| 9 | 11.8% | 12.0% |
| 10 | 11.5% | 11.5% |
| 11 | 10.6% | 10.0% |
| 12 | 8.3% | 8.9% |
| 13 | 6.7% | 6.8% |
| 14 | 5.0% | 5.2% |
| 15 | 3.5% | 3.6% |
| 16 | 2.1% | 2.4% |
| 17 | 1.6% | 1.5% |
| 18 | 0.9% | 0.9% |
| 19 | 0.5% | 0.5% |
| 20+ | 0.6% | 0.6% |
One honest caveat before going further: these are small percentages, and a gap of a few tenths of a point between leagues sits comfortably inside normal variation. I read the shape, not the decimals, when comparing one tier with another.
Q2What fair odds should an exact corner total price beat?
The table turns each frequency into a fair price, which is simply one divided by how often it happened, with no bookmaker margin. There are no corner prices in the data, so this is a benchmark rather than a record of what was on offer. If a price sits below fair, the margin is eating you before a ball is kicked.
The middle of the distribution is where the shortest fair prices live: 8.39 for exactly 9, 8.69 for 10 and 9.11 for 8. Out in the tails, 4 corners or fewer sits at 4.4% with fair odds of 22.72, and 18 or more is just 2.0% of matches at 50.22.
| Total corners | Matches | How often | Fair odds |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0–4 | 2,951 | 4.4% | 22.72 |
| 5 | 3,032 | 4.5% | 22.11 |
| 6 | 4,715 | 7.0% | 14.22 |
| 7 | 6,349 | 9.5% | 10.56 |
| 8 | 7,363 | 11.0% | 9.11 |
| 9 | 7,991 | 11.9% | 8.39 |
| 10 | 7,712 | 11.5% | 8.69 |
| 11 | 6,901 | 10.3% | 9.72 |
| 12 | 5,782 | 8.6% | 11.60 |
| 13 | 4,533 | 6.8% | 14.79 |
| 14 | 3,445 | 5.1% | 19.46 |
| 15 | 2,393 | 3.6% | 28.02 |
| 16–17 | 2,545 | 3.8% | 26.34 |
| 18 or more | 1,335 | 2.0% | 50.22 |
The extremes are real but rare. Only 0.6% of matches reached 20 or more, and the single highest total was 32. I treat those long tails as places where an overpriced offer looks generous but rarely is.
Q3Which band wins the 0–8, 9–11 or 12+ range bet?
The range bet splits every match into three buckets, and the stacked bars show how all divisions, top flights and lower divisions fall across them. Across everything, it ran 36.4% for 0–8, 33.7% for 9–11 and 29.9% for 12+. The low band wins most often simply because it covers more numbers, not because matches are quiet.
Fair odds across all divisions were 2.75 for 0–8, 2.97 for 9–11 and 3.35 for 12+. Lower divisions lean very slightly higher, with 30.4% in the 12+ band against 29.3% in the top flights, but that's the kind of gap I'd want backed up by team-level reasons before acting on it.
View the data: corner range bet: 0–8, 9–11 or 12+
| 0–8 | 9–11 | 12+ | |
|---|---|---|---|
| All divisions | 36.4% | 33.7% | 29.9% |
| Top flights | 36.8% | 33.9% | 29.3% |
| Lower divisions | 36.1% | 33.5% | 30.4% |
Q4Is there any edge in betting odd or even corners?
Odd totals landed in 50.1% of matches and even totals in 49.9%. The top flights showed an odd share of 50.7% and the lower divisions 49.6%, so the lean even flips direction depending on the tier.
For me that settles it: odd/even on corners is close to a pure coin flip. Any price on either side that carries a normal margin is a cost with no structural edge behind it, so I leave this market alone unless the price is unusually generous.

| Odd | Even | |

| All divisions | 50.1% | 49.9% |

The playbook
How we would use these numbers before the next Corners bet.
- Anchor exact bets around 9. Exactly 9 corners is the most common outcome at 11.9%, with a fair price of 8.39. Anything shorter than that on a typical match is the margin talking, not value.
- Price ranges against fair. Before backing 0–8, 9–11 or 12+, compare the offer with fair odds of 2.75, 2.97 and 3.35. Only take a band when the price beats those and your match read supports it.
- Skip odd/even by default. With odd totals at 50.1% and even at 49.9%, there's no shape to exploit. Save your stake for markets where team style actually moves the count.
Data & method
- Data: 21 European divisions, 2016/17–2025/26, 67,047 matches with full match statistics.
- Sample: 67,047 league matches from 21 European divisions, seasons 2016/17 to 2025/26, with corners, shots, fouls and cards all recorded.
- Total corners = home corners + away corners at full time; Over X.5 means more than X corners.
- Fair odds = 1 / observed frequency (no bookmaker margin). There are no corner prices in the data, so fair odds are the benchmark a price has to beat.
- Top flights = 11 first divisions; lower divisions = 10 second-to-fourth tiers in England, Scotland, Spain, Italy, Germany and France.
- Caveat: Exact-total frequencies are small numbers; a difference of a few tenths of a point between leagues is within normal variation.
